It was a chance meeting and subsequent marriage of an African-American man in the military and a demure yet beautiful Danish-German woman in Copenhagen, Denmark, that created the sensational Jaqueline “Jaq” Cherie Fleming.
Though her birth mother was lost to the world tragically when she was a mere nine months old, Jaqueline grew up to become a strikingly beautiful, talented, and well-spoken woman with a big heart and strong aspirations. Jaq was raised in various cities including New York, Chicago and St. Louis, MO. Five mother figures helped encourage her in her dreams to perform and with an incredibly large family, now consisting of at least twenty siblings, giving her the background and imagination to tackle and perfect a wide range of roles.
Jaq immediately took to the arts and began performing on stage as early as age eight and by sixteen had landed her first professional role in “For Colored Girls” (Ntozake Shange). After finishing high school in New York City, she relocated to St. Louis where she received a full academic scholarship to Webster University and from there completed her studies with a degree in film and television from Columbia in Chicago. While in Chicago, she landed dozens of regional and national commercials, independent films, print and voice-over jobs and was honored with the prestigious Jeff Award, for best actress in an ensemble in Chicago which is the highest award received in the theatre community in the windy city.
After appearing in Losing Isaiah (with Halle Berry), she decided to move to Hollywood per Halle Berry’s advice for more film opportunities. The small screen beckoned for her presence soon after landing and Jaqueline began working immediately in Hollywood. “Everything happened so fast. It was surreal how quickly I was getting work on TV shows I watched back in Chicago. It seemed like the more work I got the sadder I became because I had no one in my family to share it with. Something was missing in my journey as an actress and the pressure of being in Hollywood alone took a tremendous toll on me. I was strongly considering moving back to Chicago when my sister who is a film maker moved to Los Angeles. Shortly after my sister’s arrival in Los Angeles, I booked a movie and had to leave. While on location filming I met someone special who became my best friend and later my soul mate. Things were turning around and I was energized again and starting coming up with ideas to get involved with other aspects of the entertainment industry.
Jaqueline discovered she had an entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to be a published writer, open an acting studio, have a charity and ex-produce entertainment projects. Well, it didn’t happen overnight but all Jaqueline’s dreams have come true. “My life is so full and it’s more than I had ever imagined. I get to spend time giving back in the community. I spend one day a week volunteering and I sponsor five students a month at my acting studio by giving an artistic scholarship to those that are financially challenged. I have invested all my life in the entertainment industry and all the hard work is paying off in a huge way. There is only one thing I have left to add to my resume and it’s a series regular role on a hit TV series. Sometimes in life we have to step back and regroup to prosper. To my fellow artist never give up on your dreams. I promise you if you work really hard your efforts will not be in vain. “ God bless and God Speed. Jaqueline spends most of her time in New Orleans where she has a flourishing Acting Studio and Entertainment Company.
